The EFLM Walter Guder Preanalytical Award sponsored by BD

The EFLM Walter Guder Preanalytical Award is granted to a young scientist for significant contribution to the improvement of the preanalytical phase. EFLM is very pleased to have partnered with BD on this award, through which we intend to achieve wider recognition of the importance of high quality research in the field of the preanalytical phase among laboratory professionals in Europe.

Eligibility criteria
The applicant must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Age under 40 years
  • Member of an EFLM member country
  • Study accepted for peer-reviewed publication by the submission deadline in which the nominee must be the first author

Award timing
The EFLM Walter Guder Preanalytical Award is awarded biannually. This year, the award will be presented at the 5th EFLM Conference on Preanalytical Phase: "Preanalytical challenges - time for solutions" to be held in Zagreb (HR) on 22-23 March 2019.

Award details
The selected young scientist will receive an award of € 5000 and the costs for attending the 5th EFLM Conference on Preanalytical Phase (economy class travel, reasonable accommodation and the registration fee).

Submission details
The applicants should send the reprint of their article or a copy of the editor’s letter indicating final acceptance for publication to the EFLM office at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Articles must have been published or accepted for publication between 1 January 2017 and 30 September 2018. Entries must be published in English in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Applicants should also send a statement signed by all authors of the publication consenting to submission of the paper for the Award and to the conditions of entry. Submissions will be judged by an independent panel of experts. The nominee must be the first author and a member of an EFLM member society. The Award will be presented to the first author, who is responsible for division of the award among his/her co-authors.

5th EFLM EFLM European Conference on Preanalytical Phase, 22-23.3.2019. in Zagreb

Dear Colleagues,

After the meetings in Parma (2011), Zagreb (2013), Porto (2015) and Amsterdam (2017), with great pleasure, on behalf of the conference organizers, we wish to invite you to the 5th EFLM European Conference on Preanalytical Phase, sponsored by BD, to be held on 22-23 March 2019 in Zagreb (Croatia).

The conference is organized by the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) and sponsored by BD Life Sciences, Preanalytical Systems. The focus of the conference is the quality of the preanalytical phase of the laboratory work. It is the largest such conference in Europe, which brings together more than 600 participants every second year.

The conference programme has been tailored by the scientific committee to deliver up-to-date knowledge in the field and create an open forum for interactive discussions. Your feedback during the previous meetings has guided us in the selection of the topics of this one.

We offer you an excellent programme, renowned speakers, lots of practical tools and tips. Come to Zagreb and learn from the best!

Opportunity for Young Scientists from EFLM National Society Members - bursary programme for 5th joint EFLM-UEMS Congress

Dear members,

EFLM is promoting a bursary programme for Young Scientists attending the 5th joint EFLM-UEMS Congress to be held on 10-13 October 2018 in Antalya (http://eflm-uems-antalya2018.org).

The bursaries will cover the cost of the travel, 3-night accommodation and registration fee for a maximum of Eur 750. EFLM bursary recipients will also receive a free on-line yearly subscription to Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM), kindly offered by de Gruyter.

Eligible candidates must come from an EFLM Member Society and meet the following criteria:
- young participants (≤35y at the date of the conference);
- having a poster abstract accepted as First Author (deadline for abstract submission June 30, 2018)

Applications must be submitted through the attached application form and accompanied by the following documentation:
1) Copy of the ID or passport,
2) Document proving the membership to the EFLM National Society,
3) Notification of poster acceptance (acceptance/rejection will be sent by the congress organizers within July 31, 2018)
